Long Ashton Football Club is celebrating the remarkable success of its girls teams, as membership soared to over 100 new players this year.

Bristol has seemingly become a hotbed for women’s football in recent months, with the Subway Women’s League Cup Final drawing a record crowd of over 21,000 to Ashton Gate Stadium on Mother’s Day back in March.

Since launching in May 2022, LAFC’s girls teams have quickly expanded from a small group into a vibrant community of young women, with under-8s up to under-15s attending regular training, as well as competing weekly in the Somerset Girls League and Bristol Girls League - one of the region’s biggest competitions of its kind. Lee Probert, who is Vice Chair for Girls Teams, says, ‘The recent increase in the popularity of girl’s football has no doubt been spurred by the unstoppable success of the England Lionesses and we’re thrilled to see so many young women joining LAFC. With over 400 young players across the whole club, we wouldn’t be able to do this work without the support of our sponsors and, most of all, our incredible volunteers. Football is a great team sport that teaches invaluable life skills and it should be fun and accessible to all.’

As a grassroots sports club, LAFC is run by volunteers, funded by a combination of player fees, council grants, community fundraising and the support of local businesses. We are proud to be LAFC’s official 2025/6 kit sponsors and have designed the uniforms to be as sustainable as possible. Our footie kits are made so they can stay within each year group whilst the players move up, so they will last longer than just a season.

Long Ashton FC invites new players and volunteers to come along to training, meet the coaches and experience the fun of grassroots football in a supportive environment. No previous experience is required — just enthusiasm and a love of the game.
